Mothers day 2011! I’m really late posting this. But that’s okay. I hope everyone’s mom had a relaxing last Sunday.
This year I made my mom a couple of cards. This first one above is a flower, made entirely of feathers from my mom’s pet cockatiel. My mom has been collecting her feathers ever since she was born, and I thought it would be nice to turn them into a piece of art my mom can display. I also wrote a personal note on the back wishing her a happy Mothers Day.
When I gave it to her, I showed her the back first. My mom didn’t realize there was something on the other side and set the card face down on accident. My dad had to point out there was something on the back, so my mom turned the card over and saw it. She was amazed and slightly shocked, and eventually started crying as she kept staring at it.
The card really means a lot to her. She had collected the feathers in hopes that one day I would do something with them and I finally did. I think her being overjoyed to the point of tears was the best reaction I’ve ever received when giving a gift. It’s simple but I gave something that had a lot of meaning and value. My mom gives me the world, and sometimes I take her for granted without realizing everything she’s done for me. I don’t consider myself the best son since I make terrible decisions, and I’m thankful that she still loves and takes care of me regardless of what I’ve done.
